To save the planet, carbon emissions from buildings must be cut. The most efficient and cost-effective way to do this is electrification via heat pumps for space and water heating.

Cut Carbon To Save the Earth

To avoid the worst impacts of climate change and save the planet, we must prevent global warming from exceeding 1.5 degrees C. To achieve that, it’s critical to reduce carbon emissions by 45% from 2010 levels and fully decarbonize by 2030. Otherwise, a climate catastrophe is imminent. This is essential for Earth Day – and every day.

Wasteful Buildings Are a Major Part of the Problem

Buildings are a major source of carbon, thus making them a key contributor to climate change. That’s due to the “40-40-40” scenario:

  • Buildings account for about 40% of the U.S.’s annual energy use.
  • This results in buildings accounting for about 40% of the U.S.’s greenhouse gas emissions.
  • That’s because buildings waste about 40% of their energy input. The result is waste heat, which could be otherwise reused, is expelled into the atmosphere.
Buildings are wasteful. Heat pumps can make them more efficient.

Independent HVAC Systems Are Inefficient

Buildings are wasteful because inefficient conventional HVAC systems for heating and cooling work independently of each other. Instead of using waste heat for other building operations, this precious resource is discharged into the air.

The Solution: Electrify & Decarbonize Buildings via Unifying Heat Pumps

The lowest-cost way to eliminate direct emissions from buildings is to electrify using heat pumps. Heat pumps are used for space heating/cooling and domestic hot water. They replace gas with electricity, reuse waste energy, conduct heating and cooling in one system and can be 800% more efficient than conventional equipment.

Challenging the Status Quo as Heat-Pump Pioneers

Since HIGHMARK’s founding in 2013, we’ve challenged the HVAC industry status quo to make buildings more efficient. We do that by searching the world for the best building-efficiency technologies and bringing them back to the New York City metro area. By implementing these innovative systems we seek to support sustainability, electrification, decarbonization and cost savings. At the top of this list is heat pumps, which we’ve offered to our customers since the start.
